In Luke 4, we see Jesus rebuke two things. First, Simon’s mother-in-law was sick, and Jesus rebuked the illness, and Mary was well. Jesus is Lord even over illness, and Mary responded by rising up and immediately serving the Savior and His disciples.
Then, demons saw Jesus and started to speak, but Jesus rebuked them and would not allow them to speak (v42). Their response was subservience.
In these two rebukes, we see two examples that support the idea that Jesus is Lord over everything. And that’s not all. Hebrews 1:3 describes Him as upholding the universe by the word of His power. Jesus is Lord!
When you consider the Savior, do you worship Him like this? Do you acknowledge in Your heart that He is Lord over illness, over His people, and even over His enemies? Do you trust that “though Satan should buffet, though trials should come” that Christ has regarded our helpless estate and has shed His own blood for our souls? Do you pray to God in the full assurance that He can do all that He pleases?
God, help us please to see You rightly.
