He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. – Psalm 112:7
The psalmist here is speaking of the righteous person, the kind of person all God’s people should strive to be like. And the righteous person is not afraid of bad news. Why? His heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
Now, this could be read to mean that a person is not afraid that bad news could come, but more likely, the psalmist is saying that the righteous person doesn’t fear the bad news itself. He knows that when bad news comes, God knows what He’s doing. He trusts that the Lord will do what seems good to Him.
Who better an example of this righteous person than Jesus Himself, who prayed on the eve of His crucifixion, “Let Your will be done, not Mine”? And by His sacrifice, we now can be like Him. May we not be afraid of bad news. May our hearts be firm, trusting in the Lord.
God, please help us to this end.
