Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch – Philip’s Gospel

Acts 8:35 says, “Then Philip opened his mouth”, that is, he solemnly proclaimed.  Verse 35 continues, “And beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.”  Philip used this amazing passage in Isaiah 53 as a jumping off point of preaching the gospel to the Eunuch.  It was what was relevant to the situation, and he started there.  Who knows where else he went, what other passages he brought to light, what other truths of the Messiah found all over the Old Testament he blew the Eunuch’s mind with?

He told him the “good news” about Jesus (v35).  It’s important for us to remember that this is what gospel preaching is.  It’s a proclamation of good news!  Sometimes, we can get so caught up on the duty–and it is our duty–that we forget about the joy of proclaiming good news!  It is not a burden for us to proclaim good news!  You never hear anyone say something like, “There’s no easy way to say this; you’ve won a million dollars.”  When you have good news, you tell everyone who has ears!  Such should it be for the Christian and the gospel.  We have been given such good news, and we should open our mouths and proclaim it!
